Dogs who stay at Hugo's House go for a 45 minute fun and social walk on weekday mornings in the Bill Moore or Morrison Park area. Then I am off to work and your dog will be at home with my dog loving, stay at home roommate - Ellen. Your dog will have another 1/2 hour individual walk in the afternoon with Ellen. Your dog will almost never be alone. On weekend mornings I take the pack out for about an hour hike down to the river or out to the lake for some fun and a splash. I own a truck with a canopy and always carry water with me. Our motto: the best dog is a tired dog.
On wintery or rainy days dogs are mostly in the house as my dogs don't like the rain. Ha Ha. On nice fall/spring and summer days dogs play mostly outside in the large, fenced yard. There is a ramp for dogs who cannot manoeuvre stairs well, a summer-time doggy pool, lots of toys and a fire hydrant! Dogs sleep in the house at night on their own bed, blanket or crate (if your dog is crate trained).
We prefer to have one one visiting dog on top of my two - unless they are from the same family or it is a regular/repeat dog/client. So the most dogs we have at any time is four, but we prefer three. In this way your dog gets lots of individual attention! We have been taking in dogs at Hugo's House for 5 over years now.
Hugo's House is a regular dog-loving home - not a kennel. Dogs who stay at Hugo's House are cared for as if they were at home. There are no children in this home - just cats - it is important that your dog is good with cats - the cats rule Hugo's House and we are their staff ![]()
I own a young, female, rottweiler. Her name is "PIA" and she is already just over 1 year old! PIA is my 4th rotten rott & I love the breed. Therefore, it is important that you are comfortable with rottweilers. PIA and I attend obedience classes, agility training and we show in confirmation. PIA attends doggy daycare at Canine Conduct 1x per week for socialization. She is a balanced, happy dog. Photos of PIA can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.ca/coraeb/PrincessPIA#slideshow
I am also caring for a long-term foster dog named "Oscar". He may be here for quite a few months. Oscar is looking for a good home so if you know of anyone looking for a wonderful big dog - please let them know about Oscar. He is a very large, mellow 7 1/2 yr. old, neutered rotti/shepherd cross. Oscar is a social boy. He has been great for my PIA! Photos of Oscar can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.ca/coraeb/Oscar#slideshow
It is important that you let us know if your dog has been known "to bite", is a "barker", "gate runner", "fence jumper", "doesn't like men", is "food aggressive", shows "aggression with skateboards", has "separation anxiety", etc... Please make sure that we have discussed any extreme behaviour issues and/or you have outlined them in your application. All dogs have their issues, but if you dog has any behaviour issues that may be a cause for concern please let me know.
I have a fair bit of dog sense and lots of experience but I do not profess to be a dog trainer - just a dog lover. Hugo's House is a social, happy home, for social, happy dogs! (I would be pleased to to recommend dog sitters who are also certified trainers)
Sounding good so far?....Well then check out the bookings calendar on the "Doggy Bookings" page, fill in the application form and bring your pooch over to Hugo's House to meet my pretty Princess PIA, Big Oscar and the kitties.
Short notice stays are only accepted for regular/repeat client/dogs. At Hugo's House we use Inner Harmony Healing's Rescue Remedy for stressed out dogs, plus we use only biodegradable doggy bags.
A note on vaccinations: Vaccinations for adult dogs are not required as I believe this is a personal decision. Owners take their own risks, and make their own choices regarding vaccinations. Both PIA and Oscar have had their full series of puppy vaccinations and are treated with homoeopathic meds for kennel cough every few months.
Hugo's House is not a good fit for your dog? Thats okay - there is a good fit for every dog & every owner. Click on "Other Pet Care Services" for a comprehensive listing of pet care services in the Comox Valley.
