Dogs who stay at Hugo's House go for a 45 minute walk on weekday mornings in the Bill Moore or Morrison Park area. Then I am off to work and your dog will be at home with my dog loving, stay at home roommate. Your dog will have another walk in the afternoon with my roommate. Your dog will almost never be alone.
On weekends I take the dogs out for bit of a hike down to the river or out to the lake. I own a truck with a canopy and always carry water with me. The best dog is a tired dog.
On wintery or rainy days dogs are mostly kept in the house. On nice fall/spring and summer days dogs are mostly kept outside during the day. There is a ramp for dogs who cannot manoeuvre stairs well. The yard is large and fully fenced with a summer-time doggy pool and a fire hydrant! Dogs sleep in the house at night on their own bed, blanket or crate (if your dog is crate trained).
At Hugo's House it is just a regular dog-loving home - not a kennel, in this way your dog will be cared for as if he was at home. There are no children in this home - just cats - it is important that your dog is good with cats - the cats rule Hugo's House and we are their staff.
I own a young, female, rottweiler. Her name is "PIA" and she is already 11 mos! PIA is my 4th rotten rott & I love the breed. Therefore, it is important that you are comfortable with rottweilers. PIA and I are currently taking obedience and agility training. She is a social, happy dog. Photos of PIA: http://picasaweb.google.ca/coraeb/PrincessPIA#slideshow
I am also caring for a long-term foster dog named "Oscar". He may be here for quite a few months. He is a very large, mellow 7 yr. old, neutered rotti/shepherd cross - a bit possessive about his toys, but overall a friendly and social boy. He has been great for my pup! I prefer to have one one visiting dog on top of my two - unless they are from the same family or it is a regular/repeat dog/client. We have been taking in dogs at Hugo's House for 5 years now.
It is important that you let us know if your dog has been known "to bite", is a "barker", "gate runner", "fence jumper", "doesn't like men", is "food aggressive", shows "aggression with skateboards", has "separation anxiety", etc... Please make sure that we have discussed any extreme behaviour issues. All dogs have their issues, but if you dog has any behaviour issues that may be a cause for concern please let me know. I have a fair bit of dog sense and lots of experience but I do not profess to be a dog trainer - just a dog lover. Hugo's House is a social, happy home, for social, happy dogs!
So bring your pooch over to Hugo's House to meet my pretty Princess PIA, Big Oscar and the kitties. Short notice stays are only accepted for regular/repeat client/dogs.
A note on vaccinations: Vaccinations for adult dogs are not required as I believe this is a personal decision. Owners take their own risks, and make their own choices regarding vaccinations. Both PIA and Oscar have had their full series of puppy vaccinations.
Feel free to view the calendar found on the home page to check on availability.
